Portable Ultrasound

We purchased a Clarius Portable ultrasound for the maternal child clinic with expanded education and training in OBGyn practices and monitoring for the existing staff. Our goal was to assist the clinic in diagnosing the breech presentations so they would have enough time to get the mother to an appropriate facility. Set up better coordination for providing access to health care needs for students in the primary school and staff at the clinic.

This is needed as to the amount of breech presentations so that the clinic has the time to get these mothers to s facility that can handle those difficult births

Improvements to School

Rehabilitation of the preschool classroom with metal fabricated tables , blackboards, wall murals and additional chairs.

Expanding environmental awareness and trash-free environment at the school.

Solar Water Pump

We have known since we showed up in Angiya  4 years ago that we would have to tackle this project, and now we have.

Major project to install gutters and a 10,000 liter collection tank as well as repairing and installing new gutters to damaged older gutter systems with the hopes of using cleaner water for drinking in the schools until the well project was completed and as future source of irrigation for the community garden etc.

We had a well that had been dormant for 10 years assessed by an engineering firm in 2017.  It was found that it would support approx. 700 people but not the whole community. Sawa decided that we would direct its use solely for the school.  The children have to hike 1 mile round trip in order to get water from the river, of very poor quality and unhealthy water for drinking.

Sawa bought 100 liter containers for each classroom as well as chlorine tablets to purify the water which was helpful but did not really solve the problem.

We are happy to report that our well project is complete. The tower has been built, tank installed, the trench is completed and the system is operational. Clean, potable and safe water is flowing to our students.

Water is the key to everything for children so this has been our long term goal for the school

Garden Expansion

We purchased shade netting for the beginning of a tree nursery  to supplement the educational and combined environmental project for the primary school and community.

Our master agricultural  educator Joseph Agunda along with his assistant Fred Were has expanded the agricultural education program to year-round trainer support and expanded community demo-garden and out reach with natural alternatives for integrated pest management and natural alternatives to fertilizer use as well as drought prone growing practices to increase yields ..introduced new technologies blended with local knowledge…expanding to raising goats, chickens, etc. Conservation agriculture along with tree planting to improve the local ecosystem to retain water and needed nutrients for soil enrichment.

Children’s demo garden with beginning training and agricultural education year-round..education has expanded to include better harvesting and post harvesting care and storage along with nutritional benefits. In this region food security during the dry months is a major issue that needs to be tackled and this initiative will help mitigate food security issues.

Table Banking added to the agricultural resource program as a result of the increased yields and monies earned to help finance other ventures in entrepreneurship. Along with this has come newer ideas of better record keeping , marketing skills, and of course community leadership development.
